Acupuncture for Labour Preparation

Supporting natural readiness, relaxation, and resilience in the final weeks of pregnancy.

At The Acupuncture Turning Point, we offer gentle, evidence-informed acupuncture treatments to support women in their final weeks of pregnancy. While often referred to as “induction acupuncture,” what we actually offer is labour preparation—a process that helps you enter birth with greater relaxation, readiness, and resilience.

These sessions do not induce labour in a medical sense. Instead, we use well-known acupuncture points that have been shown to calm the nervous system, support hormonal balance. These same points are used for anxiety, digestive support, and pain relief at other times in life. But in the final stages of pregnancy, their effects can be particularly grounding and transformative. We can also focus on muscles to relieve tension—especially in the pelvis, lower back, and shoulders.

The Right Time, The Right Intention

We only offer these sessions when a woman is full-term (typically from 39 weeks onward), and always with respect for the body’s natural timing. The intention is not to rush or override labour—it is to help you relax fully so your body can begin doing what it’s already preparing to do.

Research suggests that women who receive acupuncture in late pregnancy may experience:

Fewer medical inductions

Reduced need for pain medication

Shorter overall labour times

Greater sense of agency and calm

While every birth journey is unique, one truth remains:
When a mother is grounded, the baby can move.
That’s the sweet spot. That’s the wisdom of this work.
