Gord Grant, PhD, RAc
Gord Grant is energized and finds incredible meaning in helping and learning from his clients and his team. His vision, and the central motivation for him and his team, is to facilitate turning points and to be the best they can be.
As a registered acupuncturist with the College and Association of Alberta Acupuncturists, Gord has continued his academic ties as a university consultant, an instructor and as lead researcher in pilot study controlled clinical acupuncture trial at MacEwan University.
Gord engages a network of healthcare practitioners, asking some to come on Global TV with him, where each month Gord introduces Albertans to various complementary practices and modalities. These connections help to foster a progressive and integrative healing environment for his clients and team.
Gord received his bachelor’s of science at UBC, went to veterinary college at WCVM in Saskatoon, obtained a PhD from the U of A in developing technology to extend our capacity to monitor drugs and residues in food and the environment, and graduated with distinction from MacEwan University’s 3 year Acupuncture program, and is registered with the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA).
Farmer and Scientist
In the 1990s Gord’s beekeeping hobby expanded each year, and eventually he left his research work to focus his efforts toward a chidhood dream to be a farmer on the land. This commercial bee business and a renewable agroforestry project on his land prospered. After several years of farming (1500 hives and 35,000 pine trees later), Gord sold his business, and went to the University of Alberta to become part of research and discussions regarding food production and sustainability.
During his doctoral and post-doctoral work at the U of A, Gord developed highly sensitive techniques for monitoring residues in food and environmental samples, and also applied his knowledge in multidiciplinary research teams in high-tech medical diagnostics and treatments.
Introduction to Acupuncture - coming home
Struggling to continue as a long distance runner, while recovering from a chronic back injury in 2002, Gord received acupuncture for the first time. Indeed, it was a TURNING POINT, not only in his physical problems and helping him continue to run, but also in career and his life commitment!
It was like coming home…
Gord was fascinated by acupuncture and set out to become qualified as a registered acupuncturist. The philosophy within the holistic practice of acupuncture blended the best of his medical training, research, and the practical realm of being a farmer and forester. For Gord, acupuncture has become a hub for him that recruits all his previous professional experiences.
Although Gord is not a commercial beekeeper any more, beekeeping still is a defining and engaging experience in his life. It reconnects him to nature and seasons, and is a passion which he shares with family, friends, clients, and the Edmonton community.

I can’t overstate how much respect I have for Gord and the rest of the staff at Acupuncture Turning Point. It is clear that they all care deeply about helping people find solutions to their problems as well as helping people maintain good health. Everyone is professional, friendly, and caring. Stepping into a Transformative Experience. I have been involved wiith alternative, holistic approaches to medicine for twenty-two years. Reiki, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais etc. Gord Grant provides a unique service: soothing in atmosphere, one instantly feels taken care of. Gord’s care and personal investment into his patients is a gift to experience, a quality lacking in today’s commodity and profit driven medical and health industries. Gord treats his patients so they can become balanced and integrated as a human being again.

Treating the whole person. One of the best decisions that I’ve made since moving to Edmonton is choosing to have regular acupuncture treatments with Gord for a range of health-related issues and for keeping myself functioning at my best. His skills are superb. One of the many things that I truly appreciate is Gord’s ability to use deep listening as part of his diagnostic repertoire. I also love the restful and affirming atmosphere at The Turning Point. Its the highlight of my week.

Redneck Review. As a Contractor and business owner I rely on my body to perform more smoothly and reliably than any other tool at my disposal. Gord’s treatments are the best thing I’ve found to keep my body in peak condition, to address issues before they become problems, and to develop healthy routines that help to avoid injury for my company and crew.

Wonderful. Once again Gord Grant worked his magic. I nearly fell asleep on the table and was the most relaxed I’ve been in weeks.

A good fit for me finally! I have been to other acupuncture practices and this one fit for me. I liked the ambiance and spacious rooms immediately. Gord is very professional and he helped me to feel comfortable for my session- he wanted to really understand my needs from a variety of perspectives. I felt safe and relaxed during the session because I knew what to expect. I left with acupressure dots on my ears which I am using for episodic care. I will be booking future sessions.

Bridging science and acupuncture. I dearly wish to thank Dr Grant for his great advice on how to handle my 3 months long shoulder pain. He has the relevant scientific knowledge of anatomy and physiology to make the right diagnosis, and thus choosing the appropriate acupuncture treatment. More importantly his knowledge of pain and pain perception is just impressive. His humane touch in dealing with me was exceptional. My shoulder pain is gone.

Migraines. If you suffer from migraines or any neck tension I highly recommend seeing Gord. I suffered from almost daily migraines and after seeing Gord for regular acupuncture I was able to go medication free and my migraines are infrequent. Acupuncture was a last resort that I wish I had tried years ago!
